The Government plans to introduce tests in English and maths for four- and five-year-olds when they start school in September.

The Reception Baseline Assessment is just another way to use our children as data-points to measure schools. The results will be unreliable: teachers and experts agree that it’s impossible to use formal tests to gain an accurate picture of what a four-year-old can and cannot do. The tests will not help teachers, children or parents: the results will be locked away for seven years until our children finish primary school.
